On May 27 2025 I headed down to San Francisco California to the DNA Lounge. The event that evening was the first Lords of Acid show with new to the band, Carla Harvey. Supporting them on this tour was Alley Kat and Little Miss Nasty.
Alley Kat was up first. She is a DJ and did a 45 minute set to ramp up the crowd and boy did she. She stood still as she jammed out the tunes to a growing and dancing crowd. It was the perfect set to get this lively crowd into what was to come.
Little Miss Nasty was up next, and we were not prepared for what was about to unfold. They burst onto the stage with incredible energy and completely captivated the crowd. Their dancing was outstanding as they moved to many popular hits. Acts like Nine Inch Nails, Korn, Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot, and Rob Zombie set the perfect tone for these performers.
The highlight of their set, however, was the last two songs. They played “Sippin’ on a 40,” along with another track whose name I didn’t catch, but it was amazing! The performance was skillful and well received, and it is sure to continue evolving and changing over time.
We didn’t know what to expect when Lords of Acid hit the stage. While we were all familiar with their songs, this performance featured a new lead singer, Carla Harvey, who took the stage as if she had found her home. Her powerful vocals blended perfectly with the band, and a round of applause was all she needed to kick things off.
They began their set with “Voodoo-U”, a song that ignited the energy in the crowd. The performance was solid as they powered through the song. Up next was “Do What You Want to Do”, which allowed Carla to settle into the rhythm that the band has established over the years—an absolutely fantastic song. Following that was the thrilling “Lover”, which they jammed out with the skill fans have come to expect.
Next up was “Drink My Honey”, which was executed excellently, showcasing Carla as though she had been with the band all along. They then moved into “Mister Machoman”, where they playfully asked, “How many of us are machomen?” before diving into the song and delivering a killer performance. The chorus, featuring the provocative line ‘All the Girls Want to Cum on You’, had the audience fully engaged.
The next song was one that Carla especially wanted to perform on this tour: “The Power is Mine Coda”. They absolutely crushed it, jamming through the track with enthusiasm. When they launched into “(A Treatise on the Practical Methods Whereby One Can) Warship the Lords”, Praga took over the vocals and delivered an outstanding performance filled with style and charisma. This song featured a catchy intro that brought out a few of the Little Miss Nasty girls, who danced and held up signs, adding to the excitement. The following song, “Rough Sex / Take Control”, was likely their biggest hit, and everyone in the audience was fully involved.
Dancing and singing were the focus of the evening, and they were in complete control. “Rubber Doll (Opus)” followed, leading to the arrival of sex dolls that were tossed into the crowd, hitting people on the heads throughout the performance. It was the perfect driving track to maintain the energetic vibe. For the next song, “Pussy (Round)”, Carla invited some ladies up on stage for a wild rendition, and the ladies had an amazing time, rocking out with them.
After clearing the stage of guests once the song ended, the band launched into “I Sit on Acid”. If “Rough Sex” is their most popular song, “I Sit on Acid” certainly takes second place as a massive hit. They then performed “Scrood Bi U” and “Let’s Get High”, both of which were executed flawlessly, just like the previous songs.
The last song before the encore was “The Crablouse”, a significant track in their history. While it would have been a fitting conclusion, the band had more in store. After a brief break offstage, they returned (albeit without a guitar player) to perform “Get Up, Get High”, a crowd favorite with a driving beat that everyone loved. The final track of the night, “Out Comes the Evil”, was a dominant song and a perfect end to the set.
The entire night was a blast. Lords of Acid definitely lived up to the hype, and I can’t wait to see them again next month. Be on the lookout for a second review of this incredible band.
