On June 19 2025 I headed towards San Francisco California and the Brick and Mortar for an awesome event. The show of the evening was Winona Fighter with special guests Stratejacket and Tess and the Details, and what a show it was.
Stratejacket was up first, hailing from the Bay Area. These local guys absolutely shredded the stage! They kicked off their performance with “Be My Drug”, and it was a fantastic start that clearly resonated with their almost cult-like following. With a sound reminiscent of Green Day, they brought an infectious energy to the venue.
Next up was “The Executioner’s Daughter”, which really hit hard. The band was having a blast, and the ever-growing crowd was right there with them, showering them with applause. When they played “End Of Time”, they mentioned that they had just performed at Warped Tour, acknowledging the support they’ve received from fans over the years. It was an amazing moment, and the song was even better—everyone sang along, and the band soaked it all in.
Following that was “Cut the Cord”, a bouncy track that showcased both substance and shredding guitar riffs. They then played “New York, New York”, a song filled with intense lyrics that had the crowd jamming along—a definite hit.
The final song of their set was “Bad Start”. Ironically, considering it was their last song, it rocked just as hard as the rest of their set. The lyrics from the previous song, “small brain, big heart,” summed up their vibe perfectly. Keep an eye on this band; they’re going to blow up soon!

Tess and the Details were up next, hailing from San Francisco. They looked sharp and solid in black denim pants and black Fred Perry shirts. They kicked off their set with “Take Me Alive”, which set an energetic pace for the evening. This song was powerful and seamlessly transitioned into the next one, “Blondie”, where the band jammed out, and the drummer kept a strong beat.
Next up was “Runaway”, delivered with great intensity. They turned that track into an anthem for the crowd with their energetic performance. Following that was the ’80s classic “Maniac”, a nostalgic hit for anyone born or raised in the 1980s—it was a great throwback for the older audience members!
After “Maniac”, they played “Tourist”, a bouncy tune dedicated to the folks in Winona Fighter, which made everyone feel like taking a trip. This was followed by “Broken Fingers”, leading into “Unnatural Disaster”, which was dedicated to their bass player whose parents were in attendance—it’s always special when a performer’s parents come to see them live.
The performance continued with “Perfect World”, a standout song that featured the band counting in Spanish throughout. The crowd responded enthusiastically, fully engaged with the performance. They then played “Drinks” before wrapping up their set with “Canary”. This song was notably debuted by Live 105 for the band and had a fantastic driving sound accompanied by lively banter. They paused briefly to thank everyone for a fantastic set before launching into one last chorus, leaving the audience energized and grateful.

When Winona Fighter hit the stage, it felt like they were on fire. Starting with “Drunk Phoebe”, the band launched into their set, energizing the crowd from the very first note. Their range and power were impressive, and everyone in attendance was drawn to their performance. After “Drunk Phoebe”, they moved seamlessly into “I Think You Should Leave”, which expressed what we were all feeling in that moment. We were thrilled they were there, and they clearly enjoyed being on stage.
The band proudly announced their self-funded album and shared that they would be performing all the tracks from it. They followed with “R U Famous”, my favorite song, which they played with intense fervor. After that came “Subaru”, and the audience joined in, singing along as they belted out the tune. Next was “Attention”, a beautiful song filled with creative lyrics that stood out in the set.
They continued with “Jumper Cables” and “I’m In the Market”, which tells the story of a jerk who deserves a beat down. Following that was “Swimmer’s Ear”, a slightly mellow song that still had the power to engage the crowd. They then performed “Sabotage”, a massive hit originally by the Beastie Boys, and it turned into another rousing sing-along.
Next up was “Swear To God”, a song about the craziness of some people and the number of Winona Fighter fans. The driving drums and powerful lyrics were the highlights of this track. Then came “WLBRN”, which featured Rex as the pitmaster, and he did an excellent job getting the mosh pit going.
Before the next song, a disrespectful audience member yelled at the band to play music, causing a bit of chaos before he was ejected from the venue. As the band pointed out, they don’t tolerate disrespect at their shows. Up next was “Talk”, a hard and fast song that was perfectly primed for the action.
For the next song, “Johnny’s Dead”, they took the time to introduce the band, adding to the ambiance of the show. Following this was “Don’t Wallow”, a dedication to anyone with dreams, encouraging everyone to go out and pursue them.
As a finale, they closed with “Hamms in a Glass”, delivering it with unmatched flair that had everyone swaying along. This was a fabulous show, and I can’t wait for their return to the Bay Area so I can see them again.
