On Wednesday September 17, 2025 I headed into San Francisco, California and went to the Great American Music Hall. The event tonight was Baroness for the Red and Blue tour with the support of Weedeater and it was an amazing event.
Weedeater was the first band to take the stage, opening with the song “Bull.” It made me think, “Where have I been all this time?” The band played a solid set as they moved seamlessly through their song list. They performed “Mancoon,” “God Luck and Good Speed,” and “Wizard Fight,” which had the crowd going wild. The audience was completely engaged as they delivered an incredible performance.
They continued with “$20 Peanut,” a fantastic track, followed by “Jason… The Dragon” and “Monkey Junction,” packing their set with fan favorites. Next, they played Lynyrd Skynyrd’s hit “Gimme Back My Bullets,” which sent the crowd into a frenzy. To conclude their set, they performed “Weed Monkey,” a perfect choice to wrap up the show. It was a stellar performance, and that was just the beginning.

When Baroness hit the stage, it was fantastic. They opened with “Rays on Pinion,” the first song from the Red album, and it was awesome. They continued with “The Birthing” and “Isak,” two tracks with a banging beat. Their renditions of these songs were remarkable. “Cockroach En Fleur” was excellent, with Gina playing an acoustic guitar, thrilling us all with her performance.
Next came “Wanderlust,” “Aleph,” and “Teeth of a Cogwheel.” They absolutely crushed all three songs, showcasing truly excellent guitar playing as they powered through. After that, they played “O’Appalachia” before reaching the final track from the Red album, “Grad.” It was an incredible album, but they weren’t done yet; the Blue album was up next.
They kicked off the second half of the show with “Bullhead’s Psalm,” setting a bold tone. They shredded through that song like it was their last, but the night was just beginning. Following that, they performed “The Sweetest Curse,” “Jake Leg,” and “Steel That Sleeps the Eye,” three outstanding tracks that energized the crowd. The pit was churning as they rocked out these songs.
Next up were “Swollen and Halo” and “Ogeechee Hymnal,” a fantastic duo that had the entire audience rocking along—it was a blast! “A Horse Called Golgotha” and “War, Wisdom and Rhyme” followed, and these performances were nothing short of incredible, with the band playing each note to perfection.
When they started “Blackpowder Orchard,” John grabbed his Rickenbacker guitar, which has a distinctive sound perfect for the next two songs. His performance in “Blackpowder Orchard” and the following track, “The Gnashing,” was a highlight for me, as I love those guitars and basses.
For the finale, they shared a few words with the audience before diving into “Bullhead’s Lament,” wrapping up the Blue album’s tracks. The crowd was energetic yet bummed that the show was over. Overall, it was a spectacular performance!
