We all had a blast at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco California with Deke Dickerson December 5 2025

On December 5, 2025, I left work early to head to San Francisco, California. My destination was the Bottom of the Hill for the epic Deke Dickerson with special guests, The Neverland Ranch Davidians and Th’ Losin’ Streaks. What a time was had!

The Neverland Ranch Davidians arrived about 10 minutes late, but it was absolutely worth the wait. This three-piece band delivered an impressive 35-minute set, and the crowd was fully engaged. They played with tenacity and showcased that authentic Los Angeles grit. With songs like “Rat Patrol”, “I Fell So I Shot Up”, and a new track titled “Outlaw Slim”, they had the audience rocking from the start. These musicians clearly knew what they were doing, and they ended their performance with a bang, playing the final song, “Swamp Feet.” If you’re in the mood for some great rock and roll, be sure to check out this band!

Th’ Losin’ Streaks were up next. This band, hailing from Sacramento, California, powered through their set even though they were one member short. Mike was at home, sick as a dog, but the show had to go on. Tim brought out his old fuzz pedal for this performance, adding a unique touch to their sound. He was fantastic on stage, expertly picking up the amp and creating feedback from his guitar. Tim was electrifying, and the other two members played along seamlessly.

For the final song, they invited Tristan to join them on guitar while Tim wailed on the harmonica. It was a fantastic performance, and I definitely need to check out the rest of their music soon. They’ll be back on stage in just a few minutes.

When Deke Dickerson took the stage with Th Losin’ Streaks and Tristan, it was pure magic. Their garage rock set was an excellent concept, and the crowd loved it. Deke seamlessly mixed the songs with fantastic stories about them, making for a perfect evening.

They kicked off the show with “Boss Hoss”, and played their hearts out. Next up was “Mercy Mercy”, which left a strong impression on the audience. Following that was a song from Untamed Youth, a band Deke has been part of for about 40 years. This was a fantastic moment, as he had an exclusive beer-colored vinyl of the album that the song is on.

Deke then introduced a song by saying, “Is anyone here a Kinks fan?” before correcting himself to, “Is there anyone who is a fan of the band The Kinks?” After all, it was San Francisco! They transitioned into “When I See That Girl of Mine”, a deeper cut from a fabulous band.

After that song, Deke shared a story about performing at the same club when his drummer failed to show up because he was playing another gig across town. Fortunately, Russel Qwan sat in with them, and it turned out to be an excellent performance. He then mentioned that he had recorded an album with Th Losin’ Streaks a while back, during which he played fuzz guitar. Tim chimed in, saying he brought his fuzz pedal for the show too, but had accidentally broken it while changing the battery. Luckily, he was able to order a replacement and solder it back together. With a smile, Tim joked that he might start fixing amps now.

They then launched into “Let Those Who Are Without Sin Cast the First Stone”, which was dynamite. The next song, “Hey Elly May,” was about his first crush, Elly May Clampett, and it was incredible. Deke was on fire throughout the set, and the band kept up with his energy.

Deke’s next story introduced Lazy Lester, whom he mentioned he had backed several times. He recalled a time they were in a hotel room together, where he made a humorous observation about hotel coffee pods. Deke described how you could take those pods on tour, save them up, and brew coffee at home, even though it wasn’t exactly the advice he was hoping to share.

Following this, they played “Lover Not A Fighter”, a tribute to Lazy Lester, and then “Doin’ Me In”, featuring Tim’s powerful screams. The next song, “Going All the Way”, was relatively new to Deke, but the band had been performing it for some time, and it was spectacular. Deke then told a story about Roy Head, the first time he played back to him. Roy, a white soul singer, showed up really late and performed only five of the twelve scheduled songs, leaving everyone in the crowd amazed. The next song was dedicated to Roy and was titled “Treat Her Right”.

They intended to perform a song by The 13th Floor Elevators next, but Deke wanted to share another story first. He recounted his first visit to Austin, Texas, where he asked someone where to find BBQ and was advised to walk ten blocks to Iron Works BBQ. To his surprise, he bumped into Roky Erickson there, enjoying a giant beef rib—the one person he had hoped to see. They then launched into the 13th Floor Elevators’ song “You’re Gonna Miss Me”, and slayed it.

Deke went off on a mini rant about “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” before diving into “Gonna Make You Mine”. He also discussed his upcoming two shows and his table at the Punk Rock Flea Market in Alameda, California—a pity I couldn’t make it to those.

For their final song of the evening, they played “We’re Pretty Quick”, and they absolutely nailed it. Although that was meant to be the last song, Jello Biafra was in the audience, and he joined them for a performance of “Surfin’ Bird”, which was fantastic! The entire band played exceptionally well, and they truly earned applause for a wonderful evening.
