It was a quick drive out to Hopmonk Novato in Novato California to catch the latest KC Turner show. The date was February 14, 2026, Valentines day, and it was fantastic. The show featured Particle Kid with opener Milo Gonzalez and it was awesome.
Milo Gonzalez was up first. Playing an acoustic set, he showed what a master guitar player he was. He played a few songs, explaining each one as an intro. His intros were funny and included a story about meeting a guy with really white eyes in Venice Beach. He received a poem from him and used it in a song, and if he ever sees him again, he will give him some money. He hasn’t seen him yet, though.
After a few more songs, he invited the rest of Particle Kid up on stage, and they played a fantastic heartbreak song. The next song was a sing-along that started with ” I Feel Sad, I Feel Really Bad”. It was a great emo song that people did sing along to. The next song, “Matilda’s Galavant”, was fantastic, with an amazing whistle part.
It was special. After one more song, they said they were taking a break, but they would be back.

When Particle Kid hit the stage, it was more of the same except different. Starting with “Have Another Day”, this acoustic set was well thought out. They had the audience help with the tuning process, having us all do octaves as they were tuning up. We were hired. Micah’s harmonica was an awesome touch as well. Striving through the set, they played “Ring of Smoke” and “Even the Birds” to solid applause.
“Help Me Through the Trees” was an incredible song with lyrics that spoke to many of us. That song resonated well and brought us into the next song, “Thurxzday”. That song, dedicated to Hopmonk and KC Turner, was an awesome tale that said, “I’d Rather Crack The Riddle”.
That song brought up “Drone Love” and “Blue Eye”, two songs that were fantastic in their own right. For the next song, it was a personal favorite. It was kind of an ad. It was really impressive that they plugged it. It is called the Flow, a social media file-sharing site run by musicians. It really is an awesome idea.
The song up next was “Everything Is Bullshit”, a fitting song that traces everything back to the pile. From there, they played “Love My Way”, a fantastic Psychedelic Furs cover, which I would place in the top ten of favorite cover songs. They killed it. From there it was “Radio Flyer”, “Backwards”, and “Rumpelstiltskin”, three fabulous songs.
From those songs, they hit “Velocirapture (The Serpent Flew)”, a history lesson. This tour was the first time it had been done acoustically, and they did it as they had for years.
The next one was an Aroyn Davis song titled “Who We Were,” and man, that guy can sing. He belted out that song like a man possessed. It was so good. That led us to the last song of the set, “Forever Friend”. That song put the set to a well-received rest and a huge round of applause.
