On Sunday May 31, 2026 I found myself heating south to San Jose, California. The event was the Lords of Acid and their Cheeky Freaky tour. That tour included Mz Neon, Tony and The Kiki, Princess Superstar, and Dead On A Sunday at the Ritz and it was a fantastic show.
Up first was Mz_Neon. This artist knows how to work the stage. Hailing from Los Angeles, California, this duo was solid. With the guitar player providing the tracks and shredding, Mz Neon worked the stage, delivering the lyrics. They played a wide variety of songs, ranging from new wave to rap. It was a show. The highlight was when they went into “Alpha Bitch”. That song had the crowd hooting and hollering, and it was definitely a popular one. After a couple more songs, it was over. We expect her back soon.
Tony and The Kiki were up next, and they were awesome. With vocals and a keyboard guitar, they provided the sounds we were looking for. The crowd was on them from the start with a huge round of applause. This sort of retro duo was both vintage and current. Their second song was called “Light It Up, “and they had the crowd singing along with them as they jammed through it.
The next song was a Tommy James and the Shondells classic, “I Think We’re Alone Now”, and that song had everyone dancing and singing along with them. That song was brilliant as they performed it, which was pretty close to the original. After a sick disco song, they said that they were entering their last song, but before they left, they wanted to let us know to buy merch. When they started the last song, it was fabulous. They put on an awesome show, and we will be sure to catch them again when they come through town.
Princess Superstar was up next. From the start, the crowd was into her. From the get-go, they were singing along with her and dancing away. The song was “Perfect,” and it was just that. From there, she sang “Yum Me” and threw out cotton candy to the crowd. That was enough for us to remember her for a long time. After another song, she started “Licky” and threw out lollipops to the crowd. It was a fabulous evening. Everybody was rocking out while getting a sugar rush.
After a few more songs, she entered “Bad Babysitter,” and while that was a throwback hit, everyone enjoyed it like it was a current song. From there she dove into “Tough Tittes,” and that song was a banger. The final one was “Perfect (Exceeder),” and it was a perfect way to end. She had energy and style during her set, and it was recognized.
Dead On A Sunday was up next. Ironically, it was a Sunday when we saw them. Their first song was a gothic-style tune that was highly listenable, though I didn’t get the title. The next song was “Anyone,” and it hit hard. The beat and the lyrics resonated with a lot of us. The next song was “Slasher,” and it was intense. From the opening lyrics to the end, it was striking.
The next song was a newer one called “Dance Like Hell,” and they tore through it. After a couple of songs, he played “Goodbye Horses,” a clear crowd favorite. That song always drew a huge response, and they played it well. The next song was a dance mix set to Men Without Hats‘ “Safety Dance” called “Necromance.” That song was a surprise because most of the openers were on stage singing with them. The final song of the set was “Caroline,” and they delivered it strongly. They delivered every song in their set with strong energy.
The highlighter, Lords Of Acid, was up next. The first song, “Scrood Bi U,” set the crowd off. Carla came out in a short, patent-leather red prom dress that had the crowd hooked. The song was terrific, and the crowd agreed. The next song was another crowd favorite, “Do What You Wanna Do”. That song had so many innuendos. For the next song, “Lover,” Carla said she wanted to be more than just friends.
When they finished that song, they asked if anyone wanted to hear a new one, and there was a huge round of applause. “Dreamboy” was the track, and they killed it. It was an awesome song! After that, they went back to the older stuff with “Drink My Honey”. Carla went into the crowd, and it was amazing, the love everyone showed. She is loved. When she came back on stage, she went right back to working it. When it came to the next song, “Mister Machoman,” she pulled a guy on stage dressed in a dog outfit. It was fantastic how she worked with him.
For the next song, “The Most Wonderful Girl”, she described when she looked in the mirror and thought, You’re the most beautiful girl in the world. They dove deep into that song, telling us what she wanted to do to herself. Just before they entered “Pussy” she invited the girls up on stage to perform it with them. This is always a highlight of the set. We get a stage full of beautiful women, and when I say stage full of beautiful women, I mean it. There had to be 30+ women on stage for that song. It really was a wonderful song.
From there, they hit “Rubberdoll,” which was awesome. They had the blowup dolls floating in the air the entire song. The next song was “Rough Sex / Take Control,” which was a massive hit for them. From there they started “Crablouse”, a fabulous song which was to be their last one, but no.
When they left, the crowd wanted one more song, so they agreed and came back on stage for not one, but two more. The first being “Out Comes the Evil”, which started out to the pop goes the weasel tune before jamming into the song. From there, they entered their last song, “I Sit On Acid,” and as soon as that song started, the crowd went crazy. They continued throughout the song, and it was a fitting send-off for the band. I’m sure they will be touring again, so if you missed this show, catch one of the next ones because the Lords of Acid are just getting started.
